Find out who leaked it

Takedown services can remove leaked copies. They can't tell you who leaked them. Freely can, for your supporters-only posts.

  1. Each supporter gets their own copy. When a fan unlocks a post, they receive a version carrying an invisible mark tied to their account. Nobody but you ever receives the original.
  2. A copy turns up on a leak site. Download it, or screen-record it if that's all you can do.
  3. Upload it to "Trace a leak" on your post. Freely checks it against everyone who received that post.
  4. Get an answer: the account it came from, a weak lead worth looking into, or "can't tell". Then revoke their access.

Marks survive resizing, recompression, moderate cropping and screen recordings. They can be defeated by a phone filming a screen, AI "enhance" tools, or several people averaging their copies, so treat a match as strong evidence rather than proof.

Questions

Can I find out who leaked my content?

On Freely, yes, for supporters-only posts. Each supporter gets a copy with an invisible mark tied to their account. Upload a leaked copy you found and Freely checks it against everyone who received that post and names the account, gives a weak lead, or says it can't tell.

Does it still work if the leak was resized or re-compressed?

Usually, yes. Resizing, recompression, moderate cropping and screen recordings normally still carry the mark. A phone filming a screen, AI "enhance" tools and several people averaging their copies together can defeat it.

Is a match proof?

It is strong evidence, not proof. Check it against when that person had access before you act on it.

Will supporters notice the mark?

No. It is invisible at normal viewing. Supporters are told their copy is marked, which on its own discourages leaking.

Does this replace DMCA takedowns?

No. Takedowns remove copies from leak sites; tracing tells you who leaked them so you can revoke their access. They work together.
